What do you buy in the health food store? why

What do you buy in the health food store? why?

I buy foods I can not find in the regular store that are better for you
2 :
I used to buy in a health food store but don't anymore because the one small package of health store items you bring out of there costs one month of groceries I could otherwise have and enjoy. So the alternative is a $7 bottle of vitamin/mineral supplements. In those health food stores are lots of candy-like treats, diet pills, strength pills, pills to put on weight, alternatives to veggies, carb or not carb, exercise books, nutrition books, all kinds of supplements, foods in dried form, anything that sells. What you need to know is that it is like anything else " it's a BUSINESS". It's not that it's any better than any other place you'd shop. It's there to make money while providing items in one-stop shopping.
3 :
I buy tea bags, vitamins and minerals, Vicks vapo bath and decongestant stuff - why because I like shopping there and the staff are friendlier and more helpful than the supermarket or chemist. They also sell different varieties of foods you can't buy anywhere else

In reference to both taste and health benefits, what's the difference between steamnig and boiling your food

For both, steaming wins in my book. Health wise, some of the vitamins can leave the food and get into the water you're boiling it in. Pour the water off and you pour the vitamins off. Not so much with steaming. As for taste, I think steaming (especially with fresh veggies) leaves them with a great flavor and texture. Boiling them sometimes makes the mouth feel and flavor a little off.
2 :
We used to boil our food but the taste as well health benefits will be deferent,People just see that it's cooked? The food will be hard, eating will be tough.Secondly in boiling unwanted water will also be absorbed,
3 :
never boil anything.is the rule i use..boiling extracts nutrients.. steaming works with higher temperatures and your food is not actually incontact with the water, just the vapour, this cooks with all the nutrients intact and ready to go..
4 :
When boiled, food is completely immersed in boiling water, which tends to leach out some of the nutrients. Steaming is a much better option, especially for vegetables; the flavor and texture are better, and you don't have to wait for the pot of water to boil. Here's my favorite way to steam vegetables in just 2-3 minutes, using a microwave oven: For this example, I'm steaming broccoli to be used later in a crudite (vegetable platter to be served with dip); although you can do this with just about any vegetable. 1. Cut 1 head of broccoli into bite-sized florets, roughly all the same size. 2. Fill a large bowl with ice cubes and water and set it aside. 3. Set a colander in your kitchen sink. 4. Lay out the broccoli florets on a large dinner plate in a single layer. 5. Add a splash of water (about 1 T.) to the plate. 6. Cover plate tightly with plastic wrap or with a microwave plate cover. 7. Microwave on high heat for 2 minutes. Open the door and stab the largest piece of broccoli with a sharp paring knife. If the knife goes in and out easily, immediately take the plate to the sink, carefully unwrap it (beware of steam), and dump the broccoli into the strainer. If the broccoli still seems hard, give it another minute in the microwave, then strain it. 8. Immediately dump the broccoli into the bowl of ice water and give it a good stir. This step is called "shocking" and it stops the cooking process immediately and helps the broccoli to retain its bright green color. 9. When cool, strain the broccoli, wrap tightly, and store until needed. Note: If you're serving the veg. immediately, don't shock it.

Do any websites offer recipes for high calorie great tasting food

Do any websites offer recipes for high calorie great tasting food?
It seems like everywhere I look there are health food sites telling me how to get ripped or how to convert high calorie desserts into health snacks but sometimes I just want to sit down and eat something bad for me. Where can I look?

Any of the big recipe sites: cooks.com, allrecipes.com, recipezaar.com, epicurious.com - just look in the Dessert section...
2 :
Just find a normal recipe. Most of the times if it tastes good it is bad for you lol... Cake with frosting Brownie ala mode fried chicken mashed potatoes with gravy cnnamon rolls pasta/potato salad hamburgers hot dogs large scoop of ice cream sundae banana split cookies bacon and so on....
3 :
Hello, could not find any, but when you find recipes you like, just make sure you use real sugar, butter or cream instead of apple sauce, or lowfat milk. It will have good old fashion flavor.

Fish is pretty good. Just have a balance between working and relaxing. Don't stress or overthink things. :)
2 :
Omega-3 fatty acids are supposedly good for the brain- found in nuts and fish. Brain exercises could include: crossword puzzles, sudoku, chess, logic puzzles, riddles, or math problems.
3 :
Take Omega 3 fish oil supplements daily, exercise, maintain hydration, get adequate sleep (6 - 8 hrs), and determine your nutritional type, in accordance with www.mercola.com TASKBAR
4 :
You are your best resource. Seriously:) Listen to your body and be real about your needs. Sleep, take a good multivitamin, Supplement w/ some B-Complex, and get some form of exercise everyday. Surround yourself w/ positive people. Do puzzles for your mental sharpness.

Is cooking food in the microwave every other day harmful to the health

Is cooking food in the microwave every other day harmful to the health?

1 :
No, not unless you are cooking yourself in it.
2 :
I heard it was unhealthy because of the radiation.
3 :
I sure hope not. I eat something cooked in the microwave almost every day.
4 :
Not unless your sticking you head in it.
5 :
Its bad to ur health especially when cooking meat inside it there are tendencies that meat cant be cook as u see it what u see is it is cooked but what u dont know is its raw. if meat is not properly cooked there are possibilities that germs in it could be eaten.. if this germs enter the body it could eat ur organs so beware! one factor too is the radiation is not natural ones its like just artificial.. so the way u cook food is not natural use the microwave just to preheat food not cook food in it.. and use it only 4 emergencies like when there are unexpected guests..
6 :
Surprisingly, after checking next question, I came to this one. Here's part of an email, which was sent to me: "I have known for years that the problem with microwaved anything is not the radiation people used to worry about, It's how it corrupts the DNA in the food so the body can not recognize it. So the body wraps it in fat cells to protect itself from the dead food or it eliminates it fast. Think of all the Mothers heating up milk in these "Safe" appliances. What about the nurse in Canada that warmed up blood for a transfusion patient and accidentally killed them when the blood went in dead. But the makers say it's safe. Never mind then, keep using them. Ask your Doctor I am sure they will say it's safe too. Proof is in the pictures of living plants dying. Remember You are also Living. Take Care." I hope the above information will assist you in determining what to cook in your microwave.
7 :
OK so no cooking live things (my baked blood will die!?!) If you are actually using the microwave for cooking it is a very safe cooking method and it is actually healthier to cook your vegetables in the microwave (you don't need to use water that drain of nutrients and don't need as long of a cooking time that break down nutrients) http://www.aces.edu/dept/extcomm/newspaper/sept10c02.html No Link Between Microwave Cooking and Cancer, Expert Says if you’re really intent on reducing potentially harmful trace amounts of carcinogens in your food during cooking, she advises giving your frying pan a rest instead.
8 :
I hope not,I have been doing it since the invention of the micro-wave. In many ways I think it is better for your health.
9 :
No, Cooking food in the microwave every other day or every day for that matter is not harmful to your health. Well, I take that back, If you have a pace maker, then its not a good idea to be using the microwave oven. I nuke veggies, meat, make brownies and I'm not glowing...lol You do need a little water when you do use the microwave to keep whatever you are cooking moist not so much for the nutrients, but to keep your food from drying out.
10 :
http://www.geocities.com/votership/ most readable document on planet earth. being translated in different languages, very fast.
11 :
Not unless you are cooking your food in plastic containers or using plastic wrap to cover the food. The latest warning from John Hopkins Hospital is they produce toxic gases that can cause cancer. Use glass and if u must cover, a paper towel will do.

How do fast food chains increase profits at the expense of public health

How do fast food chains increase profits at the expense of public health?
I'm doing my essay, just need some ideas. thanks!
Fast Food - 7 Answers

1 :
smaller beef patties with larger boxes of fries.
2 :
They don't, that wouldn't be very profitable. When most of these companies were starting, they had no idea of the bad effects from the fats they used. As they learn of these things they make changes. Put yourself in their position, would you think of harming your customer base intentionally? McDonald's cares so much they opened a hospital for terminally ill children. Don't make them out to be this monster that is carelessly poisoning it's customers. You must be responsible for your food choices. They supply the ice cream, they don't force you to eat it.
3 :
everything they sell is a cheaper and less expensive version of the real thing. such as... iceburg lettuce is the cheapest lettuce, but has no nutrients thats why its mostly white not green like romaine lettuce which is green and healthy... the beef used is cheaper and has more fat, than regular beef. etc etc...
4 :
Assign employees 'assembly line jobs' and train them to do them well (an idea that made Henry Ford rich). Do not hire anyone to work over 32 hrs a week so you do not have to pay full time wages or benefits. Hire mainly young people who will work for less because they are going to school or just playing around after work. Pay managers to work for a 'monthly wage' so they can and will work many more hours over forty for the same wage. Keep the menu simple and make few, if any substitutes.
5 :
Honestly it isn't about health at all. It is what they can get us to buy. They make grilled instead of crispy (but the grilled has injected fat so that it is moist) chicken but it isn't necessarily better for you. It is about tricking customers into buying what they are selling. That is why they have ads. It is all about money and our capitalistic society encourages it. McDonalds only started selling thier "healtier options", after the documentary about their food came out. Some fast food chains offer good choices for thier kids meals. Wendy's has fruit and milk. McDs has milk and apples (but they add carmel dip to entice the youngsters into eating them). It is give and take and the more money they make the less they care.
6 :
smaller portions and raise prices
7 :
i dunno

Is there a link between chemicals in food and a health impact

Is there a link between chemicals in food and a health impact?
Eg. Acrylamide in fried potato

well since everything (including you) is made of chemicals if you DON'T eat ANYTHING with "chemicals" you'll starve to death.... Now I ASSUME you mean non organic chemicals - theres a lotta it depends here some are 100% hamless, some (minerals) are critical to survive, some are deadly, many we know have no measurable immedate effect but long term is somewhat nebulous and recall amount matters! Iron is a vital needed mineral but get too much and it can kill...

give it away free as sample then ask them for feedback as to how much they are willing to pay...
2 :
Start small! Market just one or two items to begin. Then, after you gain customers, add more items for sale. Customers will want to try these new products, and as you build your business, your old customers will tell others about your old products and new ones, and your business will grow faster and faster.
